Peter Hegedus is an accomplished writer, director, and producer of documentary and drama films. He has attended numerous conferences, markets, and film festivals since 1999, participating in panel discussions on international financing, documentary ethics, and directing documentary.
At the age of 21, Peter began his first one-hour international documentary, "Grandfather's and Revolutions," about his grandfather, the Prime Minister of Hungary who called in Soviet troops to quash the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. The film took two years to make and won many awards, establishing Peter as an international documentary producer and director.
In 2002, Peter formed Soul Vision Films Pty Ltd, a company that produces and directs films that provide insight into the human condition. He made his first professional drama, "Redemption," in 2004, which captures the nine most important minutes of a man's life in a single take.
Under Soul Vision Films, Peter began his first feature documentary as an international co-production, "Inheritance, A Fisherman's Story," which explores the ecological disaster in Hungary in 2000 caused by an Australian mining company. The film follows the life of a fisherman who struggles to survive after the disaster and travels to Australia to confront the mining company responsible.
"Inheritance" was short-listed for the 2003 Academy Awards and won seven awards around the world, including grand prizes at the Global Peace Film Festival and the Real Life on Film Festival. The film also had a limited theatrical release in the United States.
Peter has also written and directed several other films, including "Hole in the Wall," an 11-minute drama that explores the importance of dealing with our past in order to move on with our lives, and "Wings to Fly," a documentary about a young girl living in Northern Australia who struggles to forge her identity in the midst of a controlling and difficult family.
In 2008, Peter was awarded the title of Doctor of Visual Arts, and he has also taught filmmaking at the tertiary level and conducted courses for filmmakers.
