Peter Hyams, a renowned filmmaker, was born on July 26, 1943, in New York, and began his educational journey at Hunter College Elementary School.
He then pursued his passion for art and music at the Art Students League and the High School of Music and Art, before furthering his studies at Syracuse University, where he majored in music and art.
Before becoming a CBS News news anchor in New York at the tender age of 21, Hyams had already made a name for himself as a skilled drummer, having played alongside esteemed jazz musicians such as Bill Evans and Maynard Ferguson, and performing at iconic venues like Birdland, Small's Paradise, and the Newport Jazz Festival.
In addition to his musical talents, Hyams is also a gifted painter, with his artwork having been showcased in prestigious galleries such as the Whitney Museum of American Art.
As a film director, Hyams brought a unique set of skills to the table, drawing upon his musical background to infuse his films with a deep sense of structure and rhythm, as well as his artistic expertise to capture the nuances of light and color.
Hyams' goal as a filmmaker is to create movies that resonate with audiences on an emotional level, rather than simply appealing to their intellect.
Standing at 6'1", Hyams currently resides in Brentwood, California, with his wife George-Ann, and is the proud father of three sons: Chris, John, and Nick.
