Peter Rudolf de Vries, a celebrated Dutch investigative journalist and crime reporter, was born in 1956 and tragically passed away in 2021. Throughout his illustrious and storied career, he had the distinction of presenting the television program "Peter R. de Vries, misdaadverslaggever" (Crime Reporter) from 1995 to 2012, a period during which the show achieved immense popularity and set a remarkable Dutch television viewing record by meticulously covering high-profile cases.

In the year 1983, De Vries' exceptional investigative skills were put to the test as he delved into the intriguing case of Freddy Heineken's kidnapping, a story that captivated the nation and was covered extensively by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Through his tireless efforts, De Vries was able to uncover a wealth of information, ultimately leading to the publication of two meticulously researched books that would later serve as the foundation for multiple cinematic adaptations.
