Biography

Philip James Linton, a notable individual, entered this world on November 23, 1963, in the vibrant city of Oakland, California, where he was welcomed into a large and loving Catholic family. His parents, Walter and Lillian Linton, proudly watched their youngest child, Philip, join his five siblings, comprising three brothers - John, Mike, and Brian - and three sisters - Debbie, Kathy, and Susan.

Philip's early life was marked by a series of relocations, with his family settling in Reno, Nevada, where he began his academic journey at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School.

As he grew and matured, Philip's family made the decision to transfer him to Bishop Manogue High School in Reno, where he continued his education and developed his skills and interests.

However, Philip's family later relocated back to California, where he completed his education at Providence High School, rounding out his academic career with a strong foundation and a wealth of experiences.

Philip's illustrious journey in the world of entertainment began during his teenage years, as he took the bold step of joining the esteemed Screen Actors Guild, thus paving the way for a promising acting career. This marked the start of a series of guest-starring roles on some of the most iconic television shows of the 1980s, including the beloved family drama "The Waltons," the popular sitcom "Facts of Life," the hit comedy series "Who's the Boss," and the groundbreaking crime drama "21 Jump Street." Furthermore, Philip's impressive resume also boasts a memorable appearance in the 1985 film "Once Bitten," starring the charismatic Jim Carrey.

Philip's acting career persisted in its upward trajectory, with a string of notable performances across various mediums, including the television movie "Doing Time on Maple Drive" in the year 1992, where he shared the screen with the talented Jim Carrey and William McNamara.

This thought-provoking film delicately explored the poignant theme of self-acceptance and the challenges that come with revealing one's true identity, a topic that resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike.

As a result, "Doing Time on Maple Drive" received widespread recognition, earning a coveted nomination for the prestigious Emmy Awards in several major categories, including the highly competitive Best Movie category.

Philip's life was tragically and prematurely brought to a close due to the devastating effects of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, ultimately succumbing to the illness on February 16, 1992, at the age of 28, a tender and impressionable age that was cut off far too soon.

Following his passing, his family made the somber decision to transport his body from his residence in North Hollywood, California, to Sparks, Nevada, where they would hold a Mass in his honor at Holy Cross Catholic Church, a place of solemn reflection and prayer.

The funeral proceedings continued with his interment at Our Mothers of Sorrows Cemetery, a final resting place where his loved ones could pay their respects and bid a solemn farewell to their dearly departed family member.

Philip's alma mater, Bishop Manogue High School, organized a poignant memorial service in his tribute, paying respects to his life and legacy. Meanwhile, his spiritual home, St. Charles Borromeo Church in the heart of North Hollywood, California, hosted a solemn funeral service to bid farewell to this remarkable individual. In lieu of traditional floral offerings, Philip's loved ones kindly requested that donations be made to the esteemed AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA),a respected organization dedicated to supporting those affected by HIV/AIDS.
