Biography

Phillip Andrew Morton's remarkable career has been inspired by real-life stories and bold storytelling, taking him from the screens of television and computers around the world to the forefront of the film industry.

As a multifaceted professional, Morton has excelled as both a film director and creative director, working with esteemed clients such as Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Warner Bros., and many others. His most recent film, the groundbreaking documentary Spanish Lake, played a pivotal role in establishing the genre of racism horror, paving the way for films like Get Out and Us.

Morton's passion for cinema began at a young age in St. Louis, Missouri. After completing his education, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he landed a position at mOcean, editing movie trailers for blockbuster hits such as Ocean's Thirteen and The Prestige.

He soon transitioned to documentary work, producing and directing films for notable figures like comedian Katt Williams, Oscar-winning actress Regina King, and former Secretary of State Madeline Albright.

Morton's tour-de-force documentary, Spanish Lake, garnered widespread media attention, including glowing reviews from The Huffington Post and The Village Voice. The controversial Netflix film, which focuses on a town ravaged by white flight, was initially banned from theaters in September 2014 due to its proximity to Ferguson, Missouri, which had recently been the epicenter of rioting following the murder of Michael Brown.

The film's unflinching portrayal of American racism, coupled with its use of a horror music score and theatrical filming technique, would precede the release of Get Out by three years.

In recent years, Morton has focused on creative directing and producing for prominent media entities. His expertise in graphic design and visual effects has secured him several high-profile positions, including his role as a producer for the launch of Apple TV+. He has also spearheaded main title sequences for television shows such as I Am the Night and motion logo designs for PlayStation and New Republic Pictures.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Morton served as a creative director for LinkedIn's inaugural virtual global conference.
