Biography

Pierre Christin, a renowned French comics creator and writer, was born on July 27, 1938, in Saint-Mandé.

After completing his education at the Sorbonne, Christin pursued advanced studies in political science at SciencesPo and went on to become a professor of French literature at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. His initial foray into comics was the story Le Rhum du Punch, illustrated by his childhood friend Jean-Claude Mézières, which was published in 1966 in Pilote magazine.

The following year, Christin returned to France to join the faculty of the University of Bordeaux, where he again collaborated with Mézières to create the science-fiction series Valérian and Laureline for Pilote. The inaugural episode, Les Mauvais Rêves (Bad Dreams),marked the beginning of a long-running and critically acclaimed series.

Beyond his work on Valerian, Christin has written numerous other standalone comics, including The City That Didn't Exist (La Ville qui n'existe pas),The Black Order Brigade (Les Phalanges de l'ordre noir),and The Hunting Party (Partie de chasse),all of which were illustrated by Enki Bilal. He has also collaborated with a wide range of European comics artists, including Enki Bilal, Jacques Tardi, Alexis, Raymond Poïvet, Jijé, Annie Goetzinger, Daniel Ceppi, and François Boucq.

In addition to his work in comics, Christin has also written screenplays and science-fiction novels.
