His debut project, "The Land of the Enlightened," was a groundbreaking documentary that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016. This critically acclaimed film won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Cinematography, solidifying Pieter-Jan's reputation as a masterful filmmaker.
As part of his research for the film, Pieter-Jan spent extensive periods of time in Afghanistan, capturing the country's breathtaking landscapes and intimate moments with its people. "The Land of the Enlightened" went on to win numerous awards at various film festivals, including the Phoenix Award at the Cologne Film Festival, Audience Awards and Professional Achievement Award at Tarkovsky Film Festival, Anonimul Film festival, Olympia Film festival, Costa Rica International Film Festival, Special Jury Award at Documenta Madrid, and Artistic Vision Award at DocAviv.
Currently, Pieter-Jan is working on his second long feature film, "Two Poachers," a gripping story about two brothers who find themselves at war in Eastern Ukraine. With his unique storytelling abilities and attention to detail, Pieter-Jan is set to create another masterpiece that will captivate audiences worldwide.
