Alecia Beth Moore, professionally known as Pink, was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and spent her early years in Philadelphia. Her parents, Judith Moore (née Kugel),a dedicated nurse, and Jim Moore, a Vietnam veteran, divorced when Pink was still a young child. Her mother hailed from an Ashkenazi Jewish family, while her father's ancestry was a mix of Irish, German, and English. As a youngster, Pink was consumed by her passion for singing, and her musical influences included Madonna, Mary J. Blige, 4 Non Blondes, Janis Joplin, Billy Joel, and Whitney Houston.
Pink's teenage years were marked by her unique interests and hobbies. She experimented with being a skateboarder, hip-hop enthusiast, and gymnast, showcasing her versatility and willingness to try new things. As she entered her teenage years, Pink became an integral part of Philadelphia's club scene, performing guest spots and participating in talent shows. At the age of 13, she was approached by a local DJ to sing backup for his rap group, Schools of Thought. Shortly after, she was discovered by a record executive and joined a female R&B group called Choice. When that opportunity didn't pan out, Pink signed with LaFace Records and embarked on her solo music career.
In the spring of 2000, Pink released her debut album, "Can't Take Me Home," which she co-wrote and watched achieve multi-platinum status by the end of the year. The album featured the Top 10 hit single "There You Go," which was certified gold. Pink's success was just the beginning of her illustrious career, and she would go on to become an icon in the world of pop music.
One notable achievement in Pink's career was her recognition at the 2019 Brit Awards. She won the Outstanding Contribution to British Music award, becoming the first non-British artist to receive the honor since the Brit Awards' inception in 1977 (originally known as the BPI Awards). This achievement was particularly impressive, as Pink was chosen ahead of British music legend Phil Collins, who had sold more records and had a longer career but had never won the award.
