Porter was born in the vibrant city of Los Angeles and spent her early years in Temple City, California, before making a significant move to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at the tender age of eight. This picturesque region, just outside the charming town of Escanaba, became her childhood home, where she developed a deep connection with nature, spending her days catching frogs, climbing trees, and nurturing prize-winning goats and rabbits.
As she grew older, Porter's academic pursuits led her to Northern Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in Graduate-Bound English and Theatre Performance. Her impressive academic record was matched by her impressive extracurricular activities, as she served as Secretary of the Student Body and was a member of the esteemed Mortarboard National Honor Society and Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society.
Following her graduation, Porter embarked on a two-year touring journey with the highly acclaimed Missoula Children's Theatre, honing her skills as a performer. She then relocated to Chicago, where she further refined her craft by graduating from the Second City Conservatory and The Annoyance Theatre, and performed in numerous theatre productions.
Eventually, Porter returned to her hometown of Los Angeles, where she became a stalwart performer at iO West, starring in "Tigerpants" for three years, and later at ACME Comedy Theatre, where she spent seven years as a mainstay of both the mainstage improv and mainstage sketch companies. In addition to her performing career, Porter also taught improv classes at ACME, sharing her expertise with aspiring performers.
Porter's impressive resume also includes numerous television appearances, including The Office, Private Practice, New Girl, The Mentalist, Superstore, and many more. She has also appeared in over 40 national commercials and teaches a class in commercial audition technique. Her versatility as a performer is matched only by her dedication to giving back to her community.
As an active volunteer and mentor, Porter works closely with the non-profit organization WriteGirl, mentoring teen girls in writing and helping them develop their creative voices. She is also a member of the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences and splits her time between New York and Los Angeles, where she continues to pursue her passion for the performing arts.
