Rachel Ames, a renowned actress, holds the distinction of being the longest-running performer on ABC Daytime's longest-running daytime drama, General Hospital, which she joined on February 23, 1964, just under a year after the program's inaugural broadcast.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Ms. Ames was introduced to the world of performing arts by her parents, Dorothy Adams and Byron Foulger, both accomplished motion picture and television actors. With her family's encouragement, she began her acting career in the annual Pilgrimage play in 1949.
She then went on to perform with her parents in a production of "One Foot in Heaven" at the esteemed Pasadena Playhouse, where she also appeared in "Broadway Jones", "The Circle", and "King of Hearts". Her other notable West Coast theater credits include "Cradle Song" with her father, "The Immortalist", "Chanticleer", "Mary Rose", "Golden Boy", and "The Human Voice".
Early in her career, Ms. Ames was under contract to Paramount Pictures for three years, where she was part of the prestigious "Golden Circle" of talented young performers. She made her motion picture debut in When Worlds Collide (1951) and later appeared in Daddy's Gone A-Hunting (1969).
Ms. Ames has also had a successful television career, guest-starring in the iconic series Ben Casey (1961),Wagon Train (1957),General Electric Theater (1953),and Ironside (1967),among others.
When she's not acting, Rachel enjoys a variety of avocational pursuits, including gardening, tennis, and cooking. She is also eager to find a play to perform alongside her husband, Barry Cahill.
