Rade Serbedzija was born in Bunic, Korenica, in the year 1946. He graduated from the prestigious Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, Croatia, where he began his journey in the world of acting, even as a student, taking on leading roles in film and theater productions. He is renowned for his exceptional portrayals of iconic characters such as Peer Gynt, Don Juan, Georgij, Melkior, Oedipus, Hamlet, Leon, and Richard III.
Throughout his illustrious career, Rade has written and published four books of poetry, released four albums, and directed twelve plays, including Balade Petrice Kerempuha, Kazu da je sova nekad bila pekareva kci, Judita, and Hrvatski Slavuj. He has also had the privilege of shooting over seventy films, such as Rdece klasje, Zadah tela, Hajka, Vecernja zvona, Bravo maestro, Variola Vera, Una, Usijanje, Life Is Beautiful, Cyclops, Povratak, Horvatov izbor, Dreaming the Rose, Kontesa Dora, and many more.
Rade has also made a name for himself in television, starring in leading roles in several TV-series, including Sam covjek, U registraturi, Prosjaci i sinovi, Bombaski proces, Nikola Tesla, and Putovanje u Vucjak. He co-founded a theater with Vanessa Redgrave, producing plays such as Brecht in exile, Liberation of Skopje, Smoke, and Opera Sarajevo.
Rade has been involved in numerous charity and peace initiatives, and his work has been recognized globally. He has collaborated with world-renowned directors, including Peter Noyce, John Woo, Stanley Kubrick, and Francesco Rossi, in films such as The Saint, The Truce, Prague Duet, Broken English, Eyes Wide Shut, Polish Wedding, Stigmata, Mighty Joe Young, The Sweet Sounds of Life, Open Sea, Mission: Impossible II, Space Cowboys, Snatch, and South Pacific.
Throughout his illustrious career, Rade has shared the screen with talented actors such as Val Kilmer, Elisabeth Shue, John Turturro, Tom Cruise, and Glenn Close. He currently resides in London, continuing to work on various projects and leaving a lasting impact on the world of acting.
