Reeve Carney, a multifaceted individual, originated the iconic role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the groundbreaking Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn off The Dark" in 2010. As a lifelong musician, he was thrilled to perform in a score by U2's Bono and The Edge, and to re-team with director Julie Taymor, with whom he collaborated on her film "The Tempest".
In 2013, Reeve bid farewell to his Spidey suit and traveled to Dublin to work on Showtime's highly anticipated series Penny Dreadful (2014),where he portrayed the reckless hedonist Dorian Gray.
When not exploring new acting challenges, Reeve delves into his music, currently completing his upcoming album "Youth is Wasted". Due to his demanding "Spider-Man" schedule, he built his own studio in his New York apartment, where he recorded the album primarily on his own, playing every instrument himself.
The album, reminiscent of Paul McCartney's "Ram", has a homespun quality, which Reeve attributes to the impossibility of collaborating with other musicians due to his bizarre Broadway hours.
Music has always been a significant part of Reeve's life. At 22, he signed with Interscope/Universal and formed his band Carney with his brother Zane. The band released its debut album, "Mr. Green Vol.1", in 2010, and a live album, "Live at Molly Malone's", in 2007.
Reeve's journey into performing was almost predetermined, given his family's background in the arts. His great-uncle was actor Art Carney, his mother is a jewelry designer with a degree from Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, and his father wrote jingles. Reeve began singing on his father's jingles at a young age and, at 10, was already recording with Michael Jackson on "HIStory".
Reeve spent most of his high-school years frequenting blues clubs in Los Angeles, playing with musicians older than himself, and receiving an informal music education. His dedication paid off, and after graduating from Hamilton High School Academy of Music, he was accepted into USC's prestigious Thornton School of Music, but left after a year to pursue his music full-time.
In an upcoming biopic about Jeff Buckley, Reeve will portray the late singer, combining his love of music and acting.
