Rene Moreno, a renowned individual, came into the world on May 25, 1959, in the vibrant city of Dallas, Texas, to his loving parents, Finees Moreno and Myriam Garza Moreno. This notable personage had the privilege of attending the esteemed Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, an institution renowned for its rigorous academic programs and strong emphasis on the arts.
After completing his academic pursuits at Southern Methodist University, Moreno made the bold decision to relocate to the vibrant city of New York in the 1980s, where he began to hone his craft in the world of regional theater and on and off-Broadway productions. As a dedicated professional, he was proud to hold membership with the esteemed Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, a prestigious organization that brings together like-minded individuals who share a passion for the art of direction and choreography.
Throughout the remarkable trajectory of his professional career, Moreno has had the distinction of staging a multitude of productions at prominent and lesser-known professional theaters in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, a list that encompasses esteemed institutions such as WaterTower Theatre, Stage West, Contemporary Theatre of Dallas, Theatre Three, Dallas Theater Center, Shakespeare Dallas, WingSpan, and numerous others.
He has garnered a plethora of accolades, including awards presented by the Dallas-Fort Worth Theater Critics Forum, and has been consistently recognized with the prestigious honor of Best Director, a testament to his exceptional skill and dedication to his craft.
Moreno, a devoted educator, spent a significant amount of his time leading classes and workshops at various esteemed institutions of higher learning, including colleges and universities, as well as high schools, sharing his knowledge and expertise with aspiring students.
Tragedy unexpectedly struck in the year 1991, when, while taking part in a performance of Federico García Lorca's Yerma at the renowned Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., Moreno suffered a devastating accident, falling five floors from a hotel window and subsequently becoming paralyzed from the waist down.
Despite this life-altering setback, Moreno displayed remarkable resilience and determination, refusing to let his disability define him. He went on to pursue his academic goals, earning his Master of Fine Arts degree in directing from Southern Methodist University in the year 2001.
As the years went by, Moreno's physical well-being started to deteriorate, and he underwent a surgical procedure on March 20th, 2017. However, his health took a turn for the worse as he struggled with heart complications, kidney failure, and liver failure, ultimately resulting in his untimely passing at the age of 57 at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
