Biography

Richárd Bernard is a multifaceted individual, known for his remarkable talents as an actor and multi-instrumentalist. Frequently featured in whimsical commercials, he is often seen playing exotic instruments such as the Contra Bass Balalaika, Bouzouki, Sitar, Concertina, and Didgeridoo, showcasing his versatility and flair.

Throughout his illustrious career, Richárd has made significant contributions to various films, including the Oscar-winning The Artist, as well as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Iron Man, and Love Affair. His television credits include notable shows such as Gilmore Girls, Monk, and numerous commercials and films, where he has showcased his remarkable acting skills.

As the leader of his Klezmer-fusion band, The OY!Stars, Richárd has performed with esteemed orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and has also been seen by millions as the Orchestra Conductor in United Airlines commercials and other TV shows and films.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Richárd began his music career professionally at the age of 13, backing up legendary artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis and other Sun Records Rockabilly pioneers in rural Georgia. After earning a BFA in Theatre from the University of Georgia, he moved to Atlanta, where he wrote and performed songs for theatre and bands, including a "black consciousness raising theater" he co-founded with Samuel L. Jackson.

Richárd's journey has taken him to Los Angeles, where he became a regular on NBC's Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters for two seasons, while simultaneously leading his trio at the Bonaventure Hotel. He has since worked as a session musician for films and major artists, performed with renowned acts such as Blue Man Group, Marvin Hamlisch, and Theodore Bikel, and has written hundreds of songs, authored TV animation scripts, and brought the creations of Jim Henson to life in major films.

In addition to his impressive music career, Richárd has acted in various roles, including the mysterious G-Man in Half-Life: Raise the Bar and numerous Mafia characters. He has also performed with his international, Rock, and Folk music bands around Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

As an educator, Richárd gives seminars in Ethnomusicology for students at California State University and University of Southern California, and is actively involved in performing for Holocaust survivor groups. With his remarkable talents, diverse experiences, and dedication to his craft, Richárd Bernard is a true Renaissance man.
