Elliott was born and raised in the vibrant city of Baltimore, Maryland, where he initially set his sights on becoming a skilled studio musician, with organ studies being a crucial part of his plan.
He pursued his educational aspirations at the preparatory division of the prestigious Peabody Conservatory and the Catholic University of America, ultimately earning a bachelor's degree from the esteemed Curtis Institute of Music while simultaneously serving as an assistant organist for the renowned Wanamaker Organ.
It was during his tenure at Curtis that Elliott joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the LDS Church. He then went on to serve a mission for the LDS Church in Argentina from 1981 to 1983.
Elliott's academic journey continued with the pursuit of advanced degrees, earning a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the highly respected Eastman School of Music, where he had the opportunity to study under the guidance of the esteemed David Craighead.
Upon completing his education, Elliott became a professor of music at Brigham Young University, where he was able to share his knowledge and passion for music with future generations.
In 1991, Elliott was appointed as a Tabernacle organist, succeeding Robert Cundick in this esteemed position. In addition to his responsibilities as a Tabernacle organist, Elliott has had the privilege of accompanying the renowned Tabernacle Choir and giving recitals at Temple Square, as well as recording numerous organ pieces with various labels and occasionally performing at various locations across the United States.
Throughout his illustrious career, Elliott has also had the opportunity to publish several of his arrangements for organ, many of which have been released by Jackman Music.
