Richard Whitley's early career in Hollywood began with a notable role as a mutant in a Roger Corman film, showcasing his impressive skills that caught the attention of the renowned B-movie director, who subsequently hired him to co-write the cult classic Rock 'n Roll High School. This collaborative effort led to a prolific writing career, with Whitley penning screenplays for prominent studios such as Universal, Warner Bros., Tri-Star, United Artists, MGM, ABC Films, 20th Century Fox, and Fox 2000, as well as scripts for esteemed producers Joel Silver and Stuart Cornfeld, and directors Amy Heckerling and Joel Schumacher.
In the realm of television, Whitley has made significant contributions, writing for a diverse range of dramas, including Space: Above & Beyond, Millennium, Roswell, The Others, Canterbury's Law, and ABC's Emmy-nominated Homefront, as well as the Emmy-winning SYFY miniseries Taken. He has also written pilots for CBS, Showtime, and NBC/Dreamworks, and has worked on comedies such as Roseanne, Arli$$, The Daily Show, and Michael Moore's Emmy-nominated TV Nation.
