Robbie Shakespeare was born on January 17, 1953, in Kingston, Jamaica. From a young age, he was fascinated by music and began playing the bass guitar at the age of 14. He quickly developed a passion for the instrument and began to hone his skills, eventually becoming one of the most sought-after bassists in Jamaica.

In the early 1970s, Shakespeare formed the duo Sly and Robbie with drummer Sly Dunbar, and the two musicians quickly established themselves as one of the most successful and influential rhythm sections in reggae music. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the duo released a string of hit albums and singles, including the classic "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Walk and Skank".

In addition to his work with Sly and Robbie, Shakespeare has also released several solo albums, including "Robbie Shakespeare Presents the Roots Radics" and "Bass Odyssey".
