Robert, a talented actor from New Haven, Connecticut, has made a name for himself in the Chicago theatre scene. With a career spanning over three decades, he has taken on an impressive one hundred roles, showcasing his versatility and range as a performer.
From his early days at the New York Public Theatre, where he played Kress in David Rabe's "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel", to his more recent performances at the Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf, and other esteemed institutions, Robert has consistently demonstrated his ability to bring complex characters to life.
At Steppenwolf, he has been a member of the acting ensemble for over thirty years, performing in over forty roles, including Botvinnic in Lee Blessing's "A Walk in the Woods", Father Lux in "Our Lady of 121st Street", and Pa Joad in the "Grapes of Wrath". He has also had the opportunity to direct John Olive's "Killers" at the Mary Arrchie Theatre.
In addition to his work in Chicago, Robert has performed at a variety of other notable theatres, including the Dallas Theatre Center, the Players at the University of North Carolina, Saint Louis Rep, Great Lakes Shakespeare, the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
One of his most memorable roles was with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, where he played the Devil in Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale". On Broadway, he has appeared in productions of "The Grapes of Wrath", "The Song of Jacob Zulu", "Carousel", and "Death of a Salesman".
Robert has received numerous Jeff nominations and has won awards for his performances, including a win for his portrayal of the Russian negotiator in Steppenwolf's "A Walk in the Woods". He is also a prolific playwright, having written seven full-length plays and numerous 10-minute radio plays.
Throughout his career, Robert has been recognized with several honors, including the William and Eva Fox Fellowship Grant. He is a member of Actors' Equity, SAG-AFTRA, and the Dramatists' Guild, and was a member of the Playwrights Center in Minneapolis for two years.
