Biography

Robert 'Bobe' Cannon embarked on his professional journey in 1934 by joining Leon Schlesinger Productions, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned animators Robert Clampett and Chuck Jones. Following a two-year apprenticeship, Cannon progressed to become a full-fledged animator.

As an integral part of the Warner Brothers in-house cartoon unit, affectionately known as 'Termite Terrace' due to its cramped and austere quarters, Cannon worked tirelessly on a plethora of iconic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies characters, including the beloved Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, and Elmer Fudd.

Throughout his tenure from 1936 to 1944, Cannon had the privilege of animating for the esteemed Tex Avery, Clampett, and Jones. Subsequently, he co-founded and became a leading figure in the pioneering United Productions of America (UPA),serving as the studio's vice-president from 1949 to 1957.

In stark contrast to his experiences at Warners or MGM, UPA granted Cannon the freedom to direct cartoons, particularly those featuring the iconic character Mr. Magoo.

Later in his career, Cannon shared his expertise by teaching animation at San Fernando Valley State College and was honored in 1976 with the International Film Society's prestigious Winsor McCay Award for Lifetime Achievement.
