Robert Lin is a multifaceted Chinese-American actor, writer, and filmmaker with a strong presence in both New York and Asia.
As an actor, his notable film credits include the lead role of Chairman Mao in Martin Scorsese's Tibetan epic Kundun, which garnered four Academy Award nominations, as well as appearances in the hit film School of Rock alongside Jack Black, and Red Corner alongside Richard Gere.
His filmography also includes a diverse range of projects, such as Green Card Fever, The President Show, Man of the Century, Lift to Hell, The Nightingale of Tibet, Iceberg, Front Cover, and the short film To the North, which he directed and tells the story of the Buddha's later life.
With a solid foundation in theater, Robert's stage credits in New York include a critically acclaimed performance in Ishmael Reed's The Preacher & Rapper at Nuyorican Poets Café, Zhang Boils the Ocean at Rockefeller Center's Taipei Theater, and Tadpoletigermosquitos at Mulligan's in Soho's Ohio Theater, among others.
In July 2014, Robert premiered his original play A Night with MAO in Kathmandu, Nepal, starring in and writing the play, which received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics. The play has since been staged in India, Uganda, and is set to be performed in Bangladesh as well.
Robert has also shared his expertise as an acting and directing instructor, studying with renowned figures such as Professor Richard Schechner and Ms. Sande Shurin. He has offered training programs for Chinese film productions, Indian and Sri Lankan actors, and has conducted successful workshops in Kampala and Kathmandu.
As a member of SAG/AFTRA, Robert is represented by agents in both New York and Asia, and holds a master's degree in performing arts from New York University.
