Robert Montano, a multi-talented individual, has had a remarkable career in the entertainment industry. Born and raised in Hempstead, Long Island, he was close enough to Belmont Park Racetrack to pursue his early passion as a professional racehorse jockey. However, his journey took an unexpected turn, and he traded in his riding boots for ballet slippers, transitioning into the world of show business.
Throughout his career, Montano has had the privilege of working with renowned directors and choreographers such as Hal Prince, Rob Marshall, and Jerome Robbins. He has also shared the stage with legendary performers, including Chita Rivera in Kiss Of The Spiderwoman and Peter Allen in Legs Diamond. Additionally, he starred as Ozzie in the Broadway production of On The Town, directed by George C. Wolfe.
Montano's creative scope extends beyond musical theatre, as he has ventured into plays, film, and television. He has created roles for acclaimed writers, including Jose Rivera, Lynn Nottage, Bess Wohl, Tira Palmquist, Ken Lin, Richard Vetere, and Edwin Sanchez. Some of his notable roles include Cal in the epic production of East Of Eden at Actors Theatre Of Louisville, directed by Jon Jory, and Ralph opposite John C. Reilly in Marty.
As a testament to his talent and dedication, Montano has received numerous awards and nominations, including a 2024 Drama Desk & Outer Critics Circle nomination and an ACOR award for his solo play, SMALL, based on his real-life story as a racehorse jockey.
