Robert Nelms, a Tulsa, Oklahoma native, grew up with a vivid imagination, often daydreaming about spaceships, characters, and scenes from his favorite movies and TV shows. His parents and art teacher encouraged his creative pursuits, even when he would rather draw than finish his schoolwork.
In middle school, Robert's parents gifted him a video camera, which he used to create his own stop-motion shorts animation with friends, animals, action figures, and clay. He experimented with in-camera effects and fireworks to bring his visions to life.
As he entered high school, Robert discovered the school's morning news show and was determined to revamp it. With the help of his technical education and art teachers, he created a basic editing bay and transformed the show, earning him recognition from his peers.
Over time, Robert's editing skills and creativity drew students from various classrooms to his editing bay, where he helped them mix and edit their video assignments. However, he soon realized he needed more time to accommodate the growing demand.
The following year, his high school received a grant from a local cable station, providing new equipment and cameras. Robert seized the opportunity to learn and master the new technology, editing all of his school's videos until his graduation in 1996.
After moving to California to pursue a career in film and television editing, Robert worked on various projects, including a short film titled Art of Matter, which caught the attention of Don McCorkell, who hired him to shoot and edit A River of Waste.
Robert's portfolio expanded as he worked with renowned concept artists, including Neville Page, Jordu Schell, Wayne Barlowe, John Rosengrant, and Scott Patton. He also edited and shot tutorials and interviews for Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Gnomon Workshop, Sketch Theatre, and CG Channel.
In addition, Robert edited the ZBrush 10th Anniversary video for Pixologic, Inc and a music video for Neal Fischer and Send the Sages, earning him a special thanks credit for the film Sushi Girl.
