As the lead singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer of the Apples in Stereo, a renowned rock/pop band, Schneider has made significant contributions to the music world.

Beyond his work with the Apples in Stereo, Schneider has also ventured into production and performance, collaborating with notable psychedelic and indie rock bands such as Neutral Milk Hotel and the Olivia Tremor Control.

In 1992, Schneider co-founded The Elephant 6 Recording Company, a pioneering independent record label that has played a crucial role in shaping the indie rock landscape.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Schneider has also pursued a career in academia, earning a PhD in mathematics from Emory University in 2018.

Currently, as of September 2022, Schneider holds the position of Assistant Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Michigan Technological University, further solidifying his reputation as a scholar and educator.
