Born on September 25, 1900, in Mülhausen, Alsace, Germany, a region that would later become Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, France, Wyler's early life was marked by a strong sense of family and cultural heritage.

As the older brother of the illustrious film director William Wyler, Robert Wyler was part of a family that was deeply rooted in the world of cinema. In fact, his uncle, Carl Laemmle, was the head of Universal Studios, further solidifying the Wyler family's connection to the industry.
