Robyn Symon is a renowned Writer/Producer/Director/Editor with a prestigious background in television news reporting and documentary production. She joined the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in 1991, following four years as a TV News Reporter in Texas. During her tenure at PBS, Symon produced hundreds of documentaries, public affairs programs, and TV series, including the six-season series "Florida!" which aired on both PBS and The Travel Channel, as well as the highly acclaimed PBS Pledge Special "Boleros: Unforgettable Love Song," featuring top Latin musical stars.
Symon also wrote and produced the national PBS documentary series "Voices of Vision," hosted by NPR's Scott Simon, which focused on the work of non-profit organizations worldwide. Her work on this series showcased her exceptional storytelling abilities and her dedication to highlighting the important contributions of these organizations.
In 2007, Symon made her debut in the indie film arena, producing, directing, and editing the feature documentary "Transformation: The Life & Legacy of Werner Erhard," about one of the most influential figures in the human potential movement. The film broke box office records at the Quad Cinema in New York and was acquired for distribution by Screen Media Films and Universal.
Since then, Symon has written, produced, and directed several documentaries, including "Hedy & Yumi: Crossing the Bridge," a heartwarming story about a Holocaust couple turned relationship experts, "YES: Young Entrepreneurs' Society," which reveals the secrets of success of the world's youngest and richest millionaires, and "One Week Job," a documentary about a Canadian college graduate's year-long journey to find his passion.
In addition to her documentary work, Symon served as Production Supervisor for the indie comedy "Take Down the House" in 2012. Most recently, she wrote, produced, directed, and edited "Behind the Blue Veil," a documentary film about the "blue people of the Sahara," a culture caught in the middle of the War on Terror in North Africa. The film premiered in New York in November 2013.
Symon is currently developing a slate of projects with her partner, Entertainment Tonight host Nancy O'Dell, including non-fiction and scripted TV series and feature films. Her debut feature film script, "Silueta," based on a true story, is currently in pre-production. Throughout her career, Symon has received numerous awards and honors, including two Suncoast Emmys, three Telly awards, two NABJ awards, and honors from the Associated Press and UPI.
