Rod Lurie is a renowned director, writer, and journalist. He made his directorial debut in 1998 with the dramatic short film "Four Second Delay", which won several awards, including the Best Short Film award at the Atlanta Film Festival and the Crested Butte Reel Fest.
Lurie's feature film debut was "Deterrence", a drama released in 2000, starring Kevin Pollak and Timothy Hutton. He then wrote and directed the critically acclaimed political thriller "The Contender", which received Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations.
He also wrote and directed "Straw Dogs", a remake of the 1971 classic, and "Nothing But the Truth", starring Kate Beckinsale, Alan Alda, and Matt Dillon. Additionally, he created and executive-produced the one-hour FBI drama "Line of Fire" for ABC and directed the feature film "The Last Castle", starring Robert Redford, James Gandolfini, and Mark Ruffalo.
In television, Lurie created the series "Commander In Chief", which was nominated for the Best Drama Series Golden Globe, and won the Best Actress Golden Globe for Geena Davis's portrayal of the first female President of the United States.
Before transitioning to filmmaking, Lurie graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1984 and served for four years as a Combat Arms officer in the U.S. Army. After leaving the military, he worked as a film critic and entertainment reporter, breaking into journalism as a reporter for the New York Daily News and later becoming a film critic and interviewer for Channel 12 in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Lurie has been a frequent contributor to various magazines, including Premiere, Movieline, and Entertainment Weekly. He also worked as a film critic, investigative reporter, and contributing editor to Los Angeles Magazine from 1990-1995.
As an investigative reporter, Lurie exposed unethical and illegal practices of tabloid newspapers, earning him national exposure on programs such as "60 Minutes" and "Nightline". He then spent four years as the film critic for KABC 790 Radio in Los Angeles, hosting a top-rated movie review show.
Lurie's wife is the bestselling novelist Kyra Davis, and they reside in Los Angeles.
