Roger James Limb is a renowned British composer, particularly recognized for his contributions to electronic music. Born in 1941 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England, UK, Limb's career spans multiple decades, with a significant portion dedicated to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
Prior to his tenure at the Radiophonic Workshop, Limb worked as a studio manager and television announcer at the BBC. However, in 1972, he made the transition to the Radiophonic Workshop, where he remained until 1995. Despite receiving formal music training, Limb's musical influences were also shaped by his experiences in pop and jazz bands, which can be heard throughout his work.
Limb is perhaps most famous for his compositions for the iconic television series Doctor Who. Between 1981 and 1985, he created the music for eight serials: The Keeper of Traken, Four to Doomsday, Black Orchid, Time-Flight, Arc of Infinity, Terminus, The Caves of Androzani, and Revelation of the Daleks.
In addition to his work on Doctor Who, Limb contributed music to various other television programs, including The Justice Game, Aliens in the Family, The December Rose, Thinkabout, The Box of Delights, Kevin and Co, Martin Luther: Heretic, Storytime, and the Look and Read serials. He also composed the popular education songs "Bill the Brickie", "Dog Detective", and "The Punctuation Song", as well as the cult favorite "Magic E" song.
