Roger Mobley, the talented actor, was born in Evansville, Indiana, to a family of eight children who all shared a passion for music. At just three years old, Roger was part of a singing trio that performed in carnivals and fairs, eventually catching the attention of a talent agent who signed him up.
Mobley's early career saw him land recurring roles on popular TV shows such as "Fury" and "Wagon Train," as well as appearances in numerous westerns and guest roles. He also appeared in several films, including "The Silent Call" and "Dime with a Halo."
In 1957, Disney signed Mobley to play the title role in the popular "Gallegher" episodes on "The Magical World of Disney," which became the studio's highest-rated serials. He also appeared in a few Disney feature films, including "Emil and the Detectives."
However, Mobley's five-year stay at Disney came to an end when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He volunteered for an extra year to complete Parachute Jump School and Special Forces Training at Ft. Bragg, N.C. Upon completion, he was assigned to the 46th Special Forces Co. 1st Special Forces in Thailand, where he married his high school sweetheart, Sharie Barclay.
After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1970, Mobley discovered that his parents had only set aside $6,000 for him from his extensive work over an 11-year period. He also found that he did not receive a warm welcome from Hollywood upon his return. Mobley and his wife moved to Texas, where he joined the Beaumont Police Department.
In the late 1970s, Mobley attempted a comeback with Disney but only managed to snag a couple of bit roles. He then moved back to Texas and tried his hand at various jobs, including welding, cowboying, coaching, bull riding, and undercover narcotics work. Eventually, he became a climber/inspector of 300-foot wind turbines being constructed across the country.
For relaxation, Mobley enjoys riding his adopted mustang, "Sonny," and catching and selling live rattlesnakes. The joy of his life is his nine grandchildren.
