Romilly Lunge was a British film actor who appeared in 15 films and numerous stage plays between 1933 and 1940. Born Ernest Romilly Maundrel Lunge, he was a private and reclusive person who lived a quiet life after the war. During World War II, Lunge served as an officer in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
After the war, Lunge settled at Hillcrest Farm in Warton, North Warwickshire, where he lived a more relaxed lifestyle. He would often chat with friends about his pre-war life, including his acting career and his experience learning to sing opera at La Scala theatre in Milan.
Lunge's war service took him to various naval bases, including Loch Ewe in Scotland and Ceylon, where he worked on anti-submarine warfare and sonar development. He was involved in a top-secret project with the future Prince Phillip and attended exclusive cocktail parties hosted by Noèl Coward.
Before the war, Lunge had acted alongside well-known actors and actresses, including Vivian Leigh, Lilli Palmer, Rex Harrison, and George Arliss. He also took a romantic interest in actress Margaretta Scott and spent time in Milan, where he was voice trained by the famous singer Caruso.
After the war, Lunge returned to Britain and settled on Hillcrest Farm, where he lived as a mixed arable and dairy farmer. His farm was quite large, and he ran it successfully from 1947 to 1966. He eventually sold the farm and moved to Ashby de la Zouch, where he lived a quiet life until his death in August 1994.
