Roxane Mesquida, a French-American actress, was born and raised in Le Pradet, a small town in the south of France. As a young girl, she was spotted by director Manuel Pradal while walking with her mother, writer Francoise Mesquida, and was cast in the film Mary from the Bay of Angels (Marie Baie de Anges).
At the age of 11, Mesquida began her acting career, and her big break came in 1998 when she starred alongside Isabelle Huppert in Benoit Jacquot's The School of Flesh (L'ecole de la Chair),which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. This early success led to her working with renowned director Catherine Breillat, who not only brought her to international attention but also taught her the craft of acting.
Mesquida's collaboration with Breillat resulted in several films, including Fat Girl (A ma soeur!),Sex is a Comedy, and The Last Mistress (Une vieille maitresse),which premiered in competition at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. In 2006, she moved to the United States, where she spent several months in New York attending The Barrow Group, a prestigious non-profit Off-Broadway Theatre Company and acting school, before settling in Los Angeles.
In 2010, two of her films, Kaboom by Gregg Araki and Rubber by Quentin Dupieux, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. She also starred in three music videos: Buck 65's "Paper Airplane", Grudd Rhys's "Shark Ridden Waters", and Marilyn Manson's "No Reflection" in 2012.
In 2011, Mesquida had a busy year, appearing in the TV series Gossip Girl, as well as in the features The Most Fun You Can Have Dying by Kirstin Marcon, Kiss of the Damned by Alexandra Cassavetes, and Homesick by Frederic Da. She also appeared in the art video for Opening Ceremony.
Aside from her acting career, Mesquida has also worked as a model since the age of 14, when she was spotted by Elite Model Management. She is currently signed with IMG Models, one of the world's top modeling agencies, since 2008.
