Roxanne Carrion is an English actress, best known for her role as Jo Stiles in ITV's Emmerdale from 2005 to 2008. Born and raised in the north of England, she is a unique blend of ethnicity with Persian and Italian heritage, which sets her apart from other UK actresses.
Carrion gained national attention with her soap opera debut and later broke hearts as the victim of a major domestic abuse storyline in 2010. Her dramatic performances earned her six nominations and critical acclaim for her emotional portrayal of the vulnerable Jo.
After leaving Emmerdale in 2009, Carrion appeared on ITV's Dancing On Ice, impressing audiences with her daring moves. She then took to the stage, starring in three consecutive lead roles in the 1950s musical Rock Around The Clock, Eve Ensler's UK tour of The Vagina Monologues, and the two-hander play Satin 'n' Steel.
Carrion surprised fans by playing a 17-year-old school girl in BBC's Waterloo Road, a role ten years younger than her real-life age. In 2012, she was cast as the lead role of Sarah McColl in the British film Devil's Tower, and then appeared in the urban comedy It's A Lot.
In 2013, Carrion played the lead role of Janet Weiss in the 40th anniversary UK tour of The Rocky Horror Show, and then went on to star as Shelley in The Royal Court's Ladies Day. The play proved to be her biggest on-stage challenge to date, due to the role being Scouse and Carrion being the only non-Liverpudlian actor in the cast.
Carrion began filming The Violators in 2014 and then shot for 20th Century Fox in the American horror film Wrong Turn 6. Despite her success, she embarked on a summer training course at RADA, majoring in Contemporary Drama.
Carrion has worked with acclaimed playwright John Godber on his play On The Piste, and won rave reviews for her comedic performance as Bev. She began shooting the British indie film Habit in 2016, a thriller set in Manchester.
Roxanne then took on a lead stage role at the Park Theatre in London for the Tony Award-winning play Some Girls, a dark comedy written by Neil LaBute. She won rave reviews for her lead stage role as Holly in The Wedding Singer UK Tour 2017, an eighties musical based on the cult classic Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie.
