Ruben Pla was born and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Washington Heights, New York City. He pursued his passion for the arts by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida International University, where he majored in Theatre.
Following his academic endeavors, Pla returned to Manhattan to hone his craft at the prestigious Stella Adler Conservatory, where he studied Method acting under the guidance of esteemed instructors. He also had the privilege of attending the Actors Studio workshop, led by the legendary Elia Kazan, who was impressed by Pla's performance, declaring to the class, "I believe him."
With his training complete, Pla began his career in the entertainment industry, taking on roles in Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, television, and film productions. His talent and versatility led to a wide range of characters, including lawyers, doctors, cops, soldiers, a supreme court justice, and even a zombie.
Throughout his career, Pla has shared the screen with an impressive array of talented actors, including Patrick Wilson, Viola Davis, Pierce Brosnan, James Remar, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Angie Harmon, Greg Grunberg, Jaimie Alexander, Steve Guttenberg, Kal Penn, Brad Garrett, Annie Potts, and Joe Mantegna.
Pla has had the opportunity to work with renowned filmmakers on multiple occasions, collaborating with James Wan, Hank Braxtan, and Mike Mendez on several projects. He has also been directed by acclaimed television directors James Burrows, Gary Halvorson, Marshall Herskovitz, Thomas Schlamme, Jon Cassar, and Daniel Sackheim.
Beyond his acting career, Pla has also ventured behind the camera, directing the multi-award-winning documentary "The Horror Crowd" (2020). This critically acclaimed film features interviews with Hollywood horror luminaries, including Lin Shaye, Russell Mulcahy, Darren Lynn Bousman, Oren Peli, Mike Mendez, Jeffrey Reddick, and Adam Robitel, among others.
