Ryan McMahon is a talented Anishinaabe comedian, writer, media maker, and community activator based out of Treaty #1 territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. With a degree in Theatre and a graduate of the renowned Second City Conservatory in Toronto, Ryan's comedic storytelling style is characterized by its fast-paced, loose, and irreverent tone as he explores the complexities and nuances of Indian Country and the mainstream.
Since 2010, McMahon has recorded three national comedy specials, including "Welcome To Turtle Island Too," "UnReserved," and "Red Man Laughing," as well as two taped Gala sets at the prestigious Winnipeg Comedy Festival. In 2012, he made history by becoming the first Native comedian to record a full mainstream comedy special with CBC TV, titled "Ryan McMahon - UnReserved." Later that year, he made his debut at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, Quebec, where he was named to the NEW FACES list at the festival.
Ryan's latest full-length CBC comedy special, "Red Man Laughing," aired nationally on CBC Radio 1 in 2015. His new live show, "Wreck-On Silly Nation," is scheduled to tour across Canada in 2017 and tackles massive themes such as reconciliation, Canada's 150th birthday party, and the intricacies of moose meat pie.
In addition to his work as a comedian, Ryan has also written for various publications, including the GLOBE & MAIL, VICE, CBC, CBC Aboriginal, and APTN, among others.
