Born in the vibrant city of Tokyo, Japan, this individual embarked on a journey to Beijing in the year 2005, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their life. Their first directed narrative film, Lingling's Garden, was a milestone achievement, and it sparked a passion within them to explore the ever-changing Chinese society and the personal lives of its citizens.
As a Director of Photography, they had the privilege of working on several notable projects, including The Judge, The Warmth of Orange Peel, Egg and Stone, and When Night Falls. These films were showcased at prestigious international festivals such as the Venice Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, the Locarno Film Festival, and the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
Their documentary work has also been widely recognized, with films like Trace and Beijing Ants receiving critical acclaim. The former, which premiered at the Hong Kong International Film Festival's Documentary Competition, delves into the complex dynamics of a Chinese-Japanese family living under the Senkaku Islands dispute. The latter, showcased at the Hotdocs festival, offers a thought-provoking exploration of capitalism in modern China.
In addition to their work as a Director of Photography, this individual is also a dedicated educator, serving as a teacher at the Lixianting Film School. They have also participated in the Berlinale Talents program, a prestigious initiative that fosters the development of emerging filmmakers.
In 2017, they co-directed the feature film The Foolish Bird, which went on to win the Special Mention of the Generation 14plus international Jury at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. This outstanding achievement is a testament to their talent, dedication, and commitment to storytelling.
