Sandra De Sousa's captivating multi-ethnic appearance, a blend of Portuguese heritage and striking talent, has propelled her to the forefront of the entertainment industry, solidifying her status as an emerging star.
Born in London to Portuguese parents, Sandra's passion for acting was ignited at the tender age of five. She went on to hone her craft through principal roles in numerous school plays and musicals, as well as studying painting at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, part of University College London (UCL). During this period, she began working in professional productions at the Bloomsbury Theatre, taking on significant parts in productions such as 'Yerma' and 'Caligula'.
Sandra's performance as Salome in 'Salome' at the Edinburgh Fringe earned her a starring role in her first feature film, 'The Prodigal'. She continued to refine her skills through training at the Central School of Speech and Drama, the Poor School, and Actors Temple. In 2003, she won the British Finalist category of the 'International Stopping Power' competition, securing the prize of training with renowned Los Angeles-based acting coach Bernard Hiller. This meeting proved to be a turning point, as she went on to become the founding organizer of his Masterclasses in London and continues to work with him regularly in Los Angeles.
Sandra has worked extensively in theatre, taking on leading and supporting roles in popular stage productions, including 'Yerma', 'Salome', 'Caligula' at the Bloomsbury Theatre, 'Bound Man' at the Battersea Arts Centre, 'The Hothouse', 'Be my Baby', and classics such as Isabella in 'Measure for Measure' and Yeliena in 'Uncle Vanya' at the Workhouse Theatre. Recently, she landed the starring role of Rosie in the first-ever production of 'Porn Crackers', which also starred Charley Speed (Britain's Top Model Judge),directed by well-known producer/director Ruth Boswell and written by Jan Woolf, awarded the Harold Pinter residency at the Hackney Empire, London.
Following her role in the film 'Love on the High Side', which won the audience vote at the Cannes 24 hour Film Festival, Sandra booked the featured role of Ashlee Wilcox, a tough drug addict, on the top ITV1 series Bad Girls. She then appeared in the role of sexy Spanish con woman Dr. Christina Lopez Rey in BBC1's popular daytime series Doctors.
As a permanent and key member of the Pink Elephants theatre company, Sandra is part of a select group of professional actors worldwide. Possessing a meticulous and passionate attitude towards her craft when preparing for roles, Sandra's ever-growing fan base worldwide has cemented her status as an artist to watch.
In 2007, she completed the US feature 'The Gift/Echelon Conspiracy' as the 2nd female lead, playing a Female Casino Technician alongside Edward Burns and Ving Rhames. In 2009, she was rehearsing for two plays, developing a UK feature, and busy with pre-production for an upcoming UK Vampire feature. In 2011, she was involved in the pre-production of the US feature 'Femena', directed by Matt Cimber and starring Sonia Braga and Paulie Rojas.
