Santiago Cabrera was born in Caracas, Venezuela, to Chilean parents, and spent his childhood in various countries, including London, Romania, Toronto, and Madrid. Although he considers Santiago, Chile, his hometown, he currently splits his time between London and Los Angeles.
Cabrera is a classically trained actor, having studied at London's prestigious Drama Centre. He began his career with small roles on British television and the London stage, where he played Montano in Shakespeare's "Othello" at the London Greenwich Theatre, directed by Rupert Goold.
He has since appeared in a wide range of roles, including Isaac Mendez in the hit NBC series "Heroes", Lancelot in the BBC series "Merlin", and Cuban Guerrilla Commander Camilo Cienfuegos in Steven Soderbergh's film "CHE. Part 1", for which he received critical acclaim.
Cabrera has also portrayed the renowned War Photographer Robert Capa in the HBO Film "Hemingway and Gelhorn", opposite Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen. In 2014, he starred as Aramis in the BBC One hit show "The Musketeers", a fresh take on the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas.
He went on to appear in the hit HBO show "Big Little Lies", directed by Jean Marc Vallee, alongside Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. Cabrera has also appeared in Michael Bay's "Transformers" and the lead role of Darius Tanz in two seasons of the CBS show "Salvation".
In addition to his television work, Cabrera has appeared in films such as "Ema", directed by Pablo Larrain, and "Picard", a Star Trek series where he played the first Latin captain, Captain Rios.
Cabrera has also worked on the hit MAX show "The Flight Attendant", alongside Kaley Cuoco, and will appear in the Apple TV+ Show "The Land of Women", opposite Eva Longoria and Carmen Maura, as well as season 3 of the Warner Bros and FOX show "The Cleaning Lady".
In addition to his native Spanish language, Cabrera is fluent in English, French, and Italian.
