Alexandra Pauline Cohen, professionally known as Sasha Cohen, was born on October 26, 1984, in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Galina, a Jewish immigrant from Ukraine, was a former professional ballerina, while her father, Roger, a Jewish American business consultant, previously practiced law. Sasha's first name was inspired by her mother's favorite ballerina, and she often goes by the Ukrainian nickname for Alexandra, Sasha.
Starting her skating journey at the tender age of seven, Sasha's natural talent and dedication quickly propelled her to the top. By the time she was just 15, she had already won the silver medal at the U.S. National Championships. Sasha's impressive performances continued to garner attention, and she went on to compete in the 2002 Winter Olympics, where she secured a remarkable fourth-place finish.
Sasha's success at the international level was undeniable, and she consistently placed in the top four at the World Championships, including the 2002 and 2003 events. Her perseverance and skill ultimately paid off when she won her first medal, a silver, at the 2004 World Championships.
