Sidney Franklin was a multifaceted American creative force, initially making a name for himself as a performer on the vaudeville and stock circuits, particularly with the Mittenthal Bros. circuit.
In this vaudeville show, he shared the stage with his wife, Josephine Foy, in a production called "The Inspector." It was during this time that he caught the attention of renowned producer Thomas H. Ince, who soon after invited Sidney to join the film industry.
Franklin's transition to the silver screen began around 1913, initially as a performer, and he rapidly ascended to directing pictures. His involvement in production expanded as he became a minority owner of the Christie Film Company.
Despite attempting retirement, Sidney was persuaded to return to directing by Syd Chaplin, with whom he collaborated on the 1925 film adaptation of "Charley's Aunt."
Later in his life, while visiting London in 1928, Sidney Franklin tragically passed away at the age of 56 due to a heart attack.
