Sergey Nikolaevich Artsibashev, a renowned Moscow theater director and actor, was born on September 14, 1951, in Kalya, Sverdlovsk Oblast, USSR.
He made a significant impact in the Russian theater scene, staging over 50 productions, both domestically and internationally, and playing over 40 roles in theater and film.
Artsibashev's career spanned several decades, during which he worked for the prestigious Taganka Theatre company in Moscow from 1980 to 1989. In 1991, he established the Moscow Pokrovka Theatre company, which became a platform for him to showcase his creative vision.
His contributions to the performing arts were widely recognized, earning him the title of Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation in 1992. He was a two-time State Award winner in the field of Literature and Arts, in 1996 and 2000.
In 1998, Artsibashev staged P. Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin in the New Opera Theatre, earning the Golden Mask award for the best musical performance. From 2002 to 2011, he served as the head director of the Mayakovsky theatre, where he staged 13 plays.
Throughout his illustrious career, Artsibashev received numerous accolades, including the title of National Artist of Russia in 2005 and the Allied State Award in 2008. He was also awarded the Medal of Honour in 2009.
As a member of the Russian State Award Committee and the Russian Presidential Council for Culture, Artsibashev played a crucial role in shaping the country's cultural landscape.
