Biography

Sergei Podgorny, a renowned Ukrainian actor, was born in the picturesque village of Bucha, situated in the Kyiv region of Ukraine. The year was 1973, and his life was about to take a dramatic turn when Leonid Bykov, a prominent film director, extended an invitation to Podgorny to play the role of Victor Schedronov in the film "Only Old Men Are Going to Battle". This marked the beginning of his acting career, which would span over three decades.

Following his graduation from the Kiev State Institute of Theatrical Arts (KGITI IK Karpenko-Kary) in 1976, Podgorny joined the Dovzhenko Film Studio, where he would work tirelessly to hone his craft. However, it wasn't until 2008 that he received a role in the Ukrainian film "Cinderella from the Island of Djerba", which was released in 2009. This marked a significant turning point in his career, as he finally found his footing as an actor.

In his personal life, Podgorny was married twice and had two children. His first marriage resulted in a son, Vladimir, who is currently a sailor, while his second marriage produced a daughter, Sasha, who is a university student. Later in life, Podgorny moved back to the Kiev region to care for his elderly mother.

Tragically, Sergei Podgorny's life came to an abrupt end on July 19, 2011, due to congestive heart failure. He was laid to rest on July 21, 2011, at the city cemetery in Bucha, where he was born.
