Eilleen Regina Edwards, later known as Shania Twain, was born in 1965 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Clarence and Sharon (Morrison) Edwards. She was one of three daughters, with Jill being two years her senior and Carrie-Ann three years her junior. At the tender age of six, her mother remarried Jerry Twain, a full-blooded Ojibwa native from Timmins, Ontario, who adopted Eilleen as his own. This marked the beginning of a life filled with music, as she started singing in bars as a child after hours.
As she grew older, Eilleen's talent for singing was further showcased when she appeared on The Tommy Hunter Show at the age of thirteen in 1965. However, her life took a dramatic turn when she was just 22 years old. Her parents, Clarence and Sharon, were tragically killed in an accident, leaving her as the legal guardian of her half-brothers, Mark and Darryl, who were 13 and 14 years old at the time, respectively, as well as her sister. In the face of this adversity, Eilleen put her music career on hold to raise her family.
It wasn't until 1991 that Eilleen, now going by the name Shania, signed a contract with Mercury Nashville. Her first album may have gone unnoticed, but her second album, produced with the renowned Mutt Lange, who she married in 1993, went on to break world records with its sales. This marked the beginning of Shania's illustrious music career, which would go on to earn her numerous accolades and a place in the music industry's hall of fame.
