Shanice Wilson's singing career began at an astonishingly young age of seven months, and as she grew, her talent only continued to flourish. By the time she was eight years old, she had already been handpicked to sing alongside the legendary Ella Fitzgerald in a Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial, a truly remarkable achievement. Furthermore, Shanice's exceptional talent earned her the top prize on the popular talent TV show Star Search in 1983.
As she entered her pre-teen years, Shanice's career was gaining momentum. At the tender age of 11, she signed her first recording contract with A&M Records and released her debut album "Discovery" in 1987 when she was just 14 years old. Her early singles, "(Baby Tell Me) Can You Dance" and "No 1/2 Steppin'", received significant exposure, but it was her 1991 hit single "I Love Your Smile" from her "Inner Child" album, released on Motown Records, that catapulted her to international stardom. The song reached the top of the Billboard R&B charts and peaked at number two on the Billboard Pop charts.
In the mid-1990s, Shanice took on a new challenge, landing the role of Eponine in the musical Les Miserables and making a cameo appearance in the movie Panther. Four years later, she released her fourth album and broke a Billboard record when her single "When I Close My Eyes" made a remarkable leap on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, jumping from number 91 to number 16 in just one week.
Shanice's personal life also took a significant turn in 2000 when she married actor and comedian Flex Alexander in February of that year.
