Sharon Liese is an Emmy award-winning filmmaker who has consistently demonstrated her ability to tap into the pulse of contemporary culture. Her documentary projects have garnered widespread attention, airing on prestigious networks and streaming platforms, as well as being showcased at numerous prominent film festivals.
One of her most notable achievements is the short documentary, The Flagmakers, which premiered on Disney+ in 2022 and received widespread critical acclaim. The film was Oscar shortlisted, nominated for a Critics Choice Documentary Award, and won the Emmy for Outstanding Short Documentary. Additionally, it won Best Documentary Short at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival and Crested Butte, and received an Audience Award at the Denver International Film Festival. The film has also been optioned for a Broadway musical, produced by Mark Gordon.
Liese's short film, Parker, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023 and is currently streaming on The New Yorker.
Most recently, Liese directed and executive produced Let Us Prey, a four-part series on Discovery ID and Max. The series was a significant success, becoming the tenth most popular television series on Max just a week after its initial release.
Liese's award-winning feature documentary, Transhood, premiered on HBO in 2020 and was featured on The Ellen Show and GMA. The film won several awards, including the Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary at AFI Docs. Liese also created and executive produced Pink Collar Crimes, a true crime series for CBS.
Liese's documentary series, High School Confidential, was a critical and commercial success, breaking ratings records on WEtv. She also directed and produced The Gnomist (CNN Films),which had its world premiere at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to win 15 festival awards, including the Jury Award for Best Short Documentary at LA Shorts Fest, qualifying it for Oscar consideration before being acquired by CNN Films.
Liese's film, Selfie, created in collaboration with Dove and The Sundance Institute, premiered during the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was later the focus of a special multi-episode series on Good Morning America.
In addition to her work as a filmmaker, Liese is the founder and owner of Herizon Productions, a production company that has produced documentary programming for a wide range of networks and platforms, including Disney+, HBO, CNN, MTV, FOX, Lifetime, WEtv, OWN, DiscoveryID, and PBS.
