Shawn Sourgose embarked on a cinematic journey by initially studying Motion Picture Production at De Anza College, where he created a plethora of short films that garnered him acceptance into the prestigious "Film Core" program at San Francisco State University. This esteemed institution provided him with a solid foundation, as he went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Cinema. Throughout his years working in San Francisco, Shawn was involved in the production of over 50 films, assuming various roles on set.
In addition to his work in San Francisco, Shawn also had the opportunity to work at the renowned Saul Zaentz Company in Emeryville, where he honed his skills as a contract sound editor on a 16mm feature-length film titled "Jacobian's Desire".
As a filmmaker, Shawn has written and directed an impressive five short films and three feature films. One of his notable short films, "But, Not to Touch", is a poignant exploration of a woman's reflections on her childhood and her father's untimely passing. This powerful film was invited to the PIC Film Festival and the Asian American Film Festival.
Shawn's first feature film, "Brown Sheep", a film noir dark comedy, was distributed by Eclipse International and received a French release. This marked the beginning of his fruitful collaboration with British Academy Award-winning Director of Photography Rick Fichter, who has worked on iconic films such as "Return of the Jedi", "Poltergeist", "Top Gun", and "Aliens: Resurrection".
