Biography

Shim Eun-ha, a retired South Korean actress of considerable renown, initially gained widespread popularity during the 1990s by starring in several of the highest-rated Korean dramas of all time, including The Last Match, M, and Trap of Youth.

However, it is her critically acclaimed performance in Hur Jin-ho's melodrama Christmas in August that arguably cemented her status as a leading lady, as she swept the Best Actress awards in 1998 for her poignant portrayal.

This remarkable achievement was swiftly followed by another well-received turn in the romantic comedy Art Museum by the Zoo, further solidifying her reputation as a talented and versatile actress.

Despite her continued success, Shim Eun-ha surprisingly retired from the entertainment industry after the release of the Dogme 95 film Interview in 2001, at the height of her fame, thereby adding to her mystique and forever securing her position as the most beloved South Korean actress of that decade.
