Biography

Simon Fisher's career has been a varied and eclectic journey, spanning from his early days as a child actor to his current status as an acclaimed solo recording artist. He began his career with roles in films and TV shows such as Black Beauty and The Big Sleep, while also fronting various pop acts in the 1970s.

At the age of 17, Simon was signed to Jonathan King's UK Records and released his first solo album in 1969. He went on to explore a range of musical styles, from punk to avant-garde, and has released over 30 solo albums to date.

Simon's interest in sound has always been a driving force behind his music, and he has developed a vast library of collected sounds from daily life. This interest has led to his improvisatory and eclectic approach to music making, which is evident in his recent solo albums on the Mute Label.

In addition to his work as a musician, Simon has also composed music for films, including Caravaggio, The Last of England, and Edward II, as well as the powerful and poignant Blue, which won a Michael Powell Award. He has also toured Blue around the world, performing his music at live screenings.

Simon's work in film has continued since Derek Jarman's death, with recent credits including Inertia and Bipolar, My Kingdom, Gangster No. 1, and Croupier and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead.

In recent years, Simon has worked on a number of television dramas and documentaries, including Helicopter and Stanley Kubrick's Boxes, as well as advertising commercials for Macmillan Cancer.

In addition to his work in music and film, Simon has also been busy performing in a variety of guises, including Critical Distortion, Black Sifichi, and a new soundscape to the silent film I Was Born But...(1932) by Yasujiro Ozu.
