Simon Northwood, a well-travelled and adaptable individual, was born in Wimbledon, England. His family's nomadic lifestyle, with frequent moves between the United States and Canada, ultimately led them to settle in Burlington, Ontario in 1980. With a father who spent over 20 years as a Carnival Cruise Director, entertaining and travel were deeply ingrained in Simon's upbringing. His childhood was a veritable global classroom, shaping his perspective and broadening his horizons.
As a young man, Simon's interest in martial arts emerged in 1985, a passion that would endure for the next three decades. He attained his Yodan belt, or fourth-degree black belt in Wado Kai Karate, and competed for an impressive 24 years, even representing Canada on the national karate team in 2000. It was during this period that his fascination with acting and stunt performing began to take hold.
However, a career in animation was slowly becoming a reality for Simon. He enrolled in Sheridan College in 1992, commencing his studies in animation. Over the next decade, he worked in the industry, eventually landing a position as an F/X Animator at Disney Studios Canada. Although he enjoyed his work, his desire to bring his artistic talents to life on the big screen grew increasingly strong.
With a deep passion and an unyielding need to pursue his dreams, Simon made the bold decision to leave animation behind. He began taking acting classes, training to become an action actor, and sought to bring his own stunts to the screen. Over the past 13 years, Simon has appeared in over 50 film and television productions, including feature films such as Outlander, Repo Men, and Wolves, as well as television shows like Nikita, Lost Girl, IIIX The Series, and Alphas.
In addition to his acting work, Simon has also performed as a stunt performer in films like 300, Immortals, Red, Robocop, Clown, Pacific Rim, and most recently, White House Down. With a relentless focus on his craft, Simon continues to take acting classes, viewing every on-camera opportunity as a chance to grow and refine his skills as a performer.
