Sophia Banks is a renowned and accomplished Director, boasting an impressive portfolio of over 100 festival selections and awards, including recognition as one of the seven selected female filmmakers to watch out for in Vogue Australia's Top Female Filmmakers feature.
Banks' professional journey began with her 2017 short film, Making It On Time for Christian Siriano, which showcased women in couture gowns skateboarding through Downtown Los Angeles' industrial alleyways. This film garnered an astonishing fifteen awards, including Best Commercial from the Oscar-qualifying Hollywood Shorts Film Festival. Following this success, Banks went on to shoot global campaigns for prominent brands such as Range Rover, BMW, Ford, Chobani, Pepsi, Target, Barbie, Airbnb, Annie Bing & Nestle, as well as high-profile celebrities like Kendall + Kylie Jenner, Sofia Vergara, and Nikki Reed, directing hundreds of commercials before transitioning to long-form narrative work.
Banks' narrative Sci-Fi short, Unregistered, starring Dylan Penn and Trevor Jackson, premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival and subsequently screened at over twenty film festivals worldwide, generating millions of views on its trailer alone. Her subsequent film, Proxy, enjoyed an impressive film festival run, earning awards and attention that led to the sale of the project to Anonymous Content for a television series.
As a Director signed with CAA, Banks went on to collaborate with the producers of John Wick, directing her first Action/Thriller feature film, Black Site, starring Jason Clarke, Michelle Monaghan, and Jai Courtney. Her Director's Cut was recently released in both the US and abroad.
Currently, Banks is in pre-production on her next feature film, The Dain Conspiracy, a Political Crime Thriller produced by Oscar-winning producers Bill Mechanic and Rick Nicita (Hacksaw Ridge).
