Srđan Karanović is a Serbian film director and screenwriter, born on November 17, 1945. With a career spanning over five decades, he has directed an impressive 17 films since 1968. One of his notable works, Nešto između, was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival. His film A Film with No Name (Za Sada Bez Dobrog Naslova) won the prestigious Golden Tulip Award at the Istanbul International Film Festival in 1989.
Karanović is not only a talented filmmaker but also a dedicated educator. He currently serves as a professor of film directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) in Belgrade, sharing his expertise and knowledge with the next generation of filmmakers.
In 2009, Karanović's film Besa was selected as the Serbian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards, although it did not make the final shortlist. Despite this, his contributions to the world of cinema remain significant, and his legacy continues to inspire and influence filmmakers around the globe.
