Stacy Cochran is a multifaceted creative force, exceling as a director, producer, and screenwriter, with a rich background that has shaped her artistic vision.
Born in Passaic, New Jersey, Cochran has established herself as a prominent figure in the film industry, with a strong connection to New York City, where she currently resides.
Her feature film debut, "My New Gun," starring Diane Lane and James LeGros, premiered in the Director's Fortnight at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, garnering an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Feature.
As a writer-director, Cochran has continued to push boundaries, with notable projects including "Boys," starring Winona Ryder and Lukas Haas, the half-hour documentary "Richard Lester!," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and "Drop Back Ten," which premiered in Dramatic Competition at Sundance.
Prior to her feature film work, Cochran's short film "Another Damaging Day" premiered at the New York Film Festival while she was still an MFA student at Columbia University.
The events of September 11, 2001, had a significant impact on Cochran's work, leading to a hiatus from directing. After her directing hiatus, Cochran completed a new feature film, "Write When You Get Work," starring Emily Mortimer, Finn Wittrock, Rachel Keller, Scott Cohen, and Jessica Hecht. Shot on Super16mm film by Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Elswit, the movie premiered in Narrative Competition at SXSW in March 2018 and was distributed by Abramorama, with a global online release scheduled for February 2019.
